Can social media make a difference in times of war?
Amid talks of a possible ceasefire between Israel and Gaza on Nov. 20, social media users are calling for peace by flocking to photo-sharing app Instagram. Under the hashtag #StopTheTerror, over 7,500 photos have been uploaded to show global support for reconciliation within the last four days.
Thirty-year-old Israeli television producer Ido Simyoni (pictured below) created this Instagram movement as a cry for peace in his country and throughout the world. While he states he “could have used the hashtag ‘stop the Palestinians’ or ‘stop the Hamas,’” he realized that the “campaign should not be political.”

A federal law created to protect minors in the digital world may be thrusting them into harm’s way.
According to a recent study from the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, students who lie about their age to access Facebook prior to turning 13 could be putting other students at risk.
The Facebook gods have spoken:
“If you violate the letter or spirit of this Statement, or otherwise create risk or possible legal exposure for us, we can stop providing all or part of Facebook to you.”
Ever glanced over Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities? We doubt you’ve given it much thought. Let’s face it: No one wants to browse a legal document when they log onto a social media site. But this relatively dense terms of service statement contains some important information about what “governs” Facebook’s relationship with the user, aka you.
